hello all, does elementary support naming tests? The elementary AI suggests it does but when I tried it the test name didnt change. I don’t see any doc mentioning this. thanks

Can you please share the yml fragment with your test definition? Have you executed
dbt run -s elementary
after adding the test name?

Hi @Alex, I didn’t run
dbt run -s elementary
after adding the test name. I ran
dbt test
. Below is the fragment:
- elementary.volume_anomalies:
name: "volume for total eventtype should be stable"
                anomaly_sensitivity: 1
                backfill_days: 7
                days_back: 10

Hey @Yaoni I cannot reproduce the error. I can set custom names and custom descriptions in my environment. How did you check the name change? Can you share your console output when you execute dbt test? This is mine when I set the custom names:
08:23:59 1 of 3 START test alex Volume with spaces and long name ........................ [RUN]
08:23:59 2 of 3 START test alex_unique .................................................. [RUN]
And the elementary.dbt_tests table also contains the new custom names.

Thanks @Alex, my console does output the custom name but the name is not reflected on the report. Is this expected?
a
I see. I tried it too with 2 tests: 1) unique with a custom name alex_unique and 2) volume_anomalies with a long “xx .. xxx” custom name. In the html report, after executing
dbt run -s elementary
, the custom name for 1) is shown but not for 2).
Would you like to become a collaborator and open an issue in our github repo for this improvement?
