Hello, We have some column-level lineages that aren’t being linking up between Snowflake and Looker (see screenshot). However, there are some column-level lineages between Snowflake and Looker that does linked up but have observed that it’s only if the degree of dependency is one. What’s the best way to debug this better?
d
If I get it right, technically the looker view is 1 to 1 representation of a table and we collect column lineage based on the looker queries that only reference the view. What you are looking for is a one-to-one column level lineage between the snowflake table’s column and the looker’s view column, right?
p
Yeah exactly, I can’t see it in some but can see it others (see screenshot for working example)
I noticed the Looker View Definition for the one with the working column lineage uses
sql_table_name
whereas the one that’s not working uses
derived_table
, could that be the reason?
m
Yes that is a valid observation. The Looker source doesn't yet parse the sql in the
derived_table
segment to produce column-level lineage, so the column-level lineage only works for the simpler view definitions that use
sql_table_name
with direct mappings.
