Hello friends I was just curious about the relation between Datahub and Acryl. To me looks like Acryl is to Datahub as Astronomer is to Apache Airflow. But what I do not have clear is who is maintaining Datahub, Linkedin or Acryl? In other words who is the Apache?

i have the same question. what's Acryl's role in all of this?

I still don't understand what exactly acryl data does. do they just host your datahub instance? do they provide support? if so, what kind of support?

SaaS provider for Data Hub

There is a SaaS version with additional features. Acryl can host it for you or there are other options that can be discussed. In terms of support customer feedback helps a lot with the roadmap for the SaaS offerring. Acryl Data team manages this slack and answers questions here and maintains the OSS project alongwith the rest of the community.

Nice thanks @square-activity-64562 and @little-animal-5746 for the answers, now I have it more clear. So Acryl does both things maintain the open source and at the same time offers managed versions for Datahub. Building the community by helping people with the open source you can at the same time learn from this community and part of this learning goes to the open source and another part goes to the managed version with the extra features mentioned above. At the same time you can prospect potential clients from the interactions in this community by building a relationship and trust. It seems it has become a common business model. An example could be like when Astronomer bought Datakin and brought Openlineage inside their organization. Now you can integrate Marquez into your deploy by yourself or if you pay for the managed version you get it by default. I would be interested to now what are the extra features Acryl offers, is there an article or something.

Yeah, DBT is going the same route as well, but there are plenty of other examples of that data model out there.
