is Slack integration only available for the managed datahub version? on cloud?

Acryl's managed DataHub has native support for Slack & highly-customizable subscriptions/notifications to stay up to date with changes to your metadata (shameless plug for my blog post here 🙂) Otherwise, you can build out your own integration for global notifications following this Actions Framework guide

Hey Terry! Apologies for the delayed response here - we don't have any near-term plans to make the full-featured subscriptions/notifications experience available in the open source version of DataHub 🙂

have plans changed here and there's now no plan to open source notifications?

Hey Tim! We're still exploring our options for rolling it out to open source, but I don't have a clear timeline of when that will happen.
