i have a request to integrate OKTA into DataHub what is DataHub and why would it need OKTA data ? i would understand this is not for SAML/OIDC/SCIM but gathering data ? (even though there is a phrase which confuses me:

so - what would such integration be for, in the end ?

Possibly, this would allow other people to tag these staff with data assets so that viewers of the dataset would know who to contact?

just reading through the integration support and i see that it reads only users, group and membership but no information on integrated applications

Yes I don't think it lists down applications, only people and groups.

so - far i see only LDAP (our google offers LDAP)

Can also ingest via ldap if I recall. Creates users and groups(?)

well - i dont want users and groups being created in datahub (at least not to its directory which handles access to datahub) tx anyway for your answers
