Cypress app won't log in
# i-need-help
g
When I try to log in to Cypress app, it opens a browser window where I can log in, but the app is stuck in "Waiting for you to log in." I have tried reinstalling and cleaning the app cache, but it did not help. Thanks!
b
Looks like it is trying to direct you to Cypress cloud @ login. If you do currently use Cypress Cloud, have you connected with support?
g
I'm using Cypress cloud as a private user, not as a team/company and thus I have no support there. Their website was pointing me here, hence asking. I'm basically currently learning Cypress and the instructor (udemy) is explaining Cypress cloud. I used to be able to log in about two weeks ago in the app, however, I no longer seem to be able to do so.

Might you (or your company) have changed any firewall/proxy settings recently? Assuming you log in successfully in the browser, it looks like cypress is having trouble reporting the logged in status to your local Cypress instance.
g
No, we haven't changed any firewall or proxy settings. It is really weird because it used to work. There isn't any sort of error message in Cypress and it doesn't seem to time out, either.
w
Looks like you are up to date (12.4.1) and on Windows. I’m curious if you downgrade does anything change? And can you tell me anything else about OS and context generally? It’s definitely weird, we don’t see this problem reported more generally so wondering if it’s a combination of a recent change and your specific setup.
g
I have now installed version 12.1.0 and login doesn't work on it, either. I'm using Windows 10 with all updates installed. I haven't made any changes to my environment since starting the Cypress course on udemy. It was all working well about two weeks ago and now that I came back to it I can't log in anymore.
Is there any more information you need from me?

@adventurous-dream-20049 I wonder if you've got more ideas in this area, or have heard of other issues logging in and returning to Cypress. @gifted-gold-39106 If you can run Cypress with debug logs turned on, it's likely there would be something useful in the output - or something obviously missing. Instructions are here, if you want to capture and share logs I'm happy to take a look: https://docs.cypress.io/guides/references/troubleshooting#Print-DEBUG-logs

I have completely removed Cypress and everything else I've installed during the course of the... well, course. After reinstalling and running the debugging, this is what I got. I still cannot log in, even after completely removing everything and starting from scratch. Side question: is it normal that in terminal it says version 8.19.2 even though it's supposedly version 12.5.0 (according to package.json as well as when running the command version in node_modules/.bin)?
a
I have not seen this before, however, prior to logging in, can you try going through the configuration migration? Looks like you are missing: https://docs.cypress.io/guides/references/migration-guide#supportFile
g
Thank you. I have tried adding the supportFile line. I am not sure I am doing it right, but it still doesn't work.

A picture can be difficult to debug. Kindly provide your entire configuration as a code snippet.

i have the same issue as the original poster. can not log into my local instance of cypress with my cloud account. Note: i am on a free trial and have a org set up. I used google login.
w
dropping this issue here for reference, we're looking into what this might be from the Cy side https://github.com/cypress-io/cypress/issues/25756
@gifted-gold-39106 is that your github issue or is it a third person?
Would either of you be able run Cypress with debug logs enabled and share the logs? Instructions are here https://docs.cypress.io/guides/references/troubleshooting#Print-DEBUG-logs
s
i'll give it a try now
here you go. I ran
DEBUG=cypress:* npx cypress open --e2e --browser electron
then clicked the "login" button in the GUI, logged in, selected my project in the web browser, then returned to the cypress GUI. I then gave it a second or two, then copied the logs.

note: the GUI looks like the the entire time:

thanks for this @silly-horse-70115, I was able to compare your logs with my own for a successful login and it's clear what line is not getting called for you to complete the client side part of the login process. I may ask you to go one step further and capture network activity from your attempt to log in. Also if you would like to DM me your email address I can ask people on the Cloud side to check your account.
s
Messaged you. Thanks!
To anyone else running into this issue, for me it was resolved by ensuring my ad blockers were turn off on the Cypress Cloud domain (where you log in). I use the Brave browser, which has ad blcokers on by default. Once i turned them off, i was able to log in with no issue

@square-toothbrush-32850 did you run into this recently? My understanding is that Brave updated the issue that was the root cause of this problem, so just curious about what you experienced - what browser/adblocker etc.
s
I have Brave with uBlock Origin, Adblock and Adblock Plus, plus the Brave blocker. I was trying to log for the first time and had the problem of logging in the browser and never updating in my cypress instance. Searched a lot but the only solution I found was this topic and it worked after I deactivated all 4 protections in Cypress login page.

Thanks for sharing. It seems like we can do more to make it easy to troubleshoot this kind of problem
