Cypress vs Playwright. Has anyone used both of them ? Any drawbacks ? Is playwright worth exploring
g
Sure, you can explore it, here are the technical differences

Last year Applitools also explored this with @nutritious-restaurant-91514 and Pandy Knight -- https://applitools.com/blog/cypress-vs-playwright/

For giggles, here is the ChatGPT response.

I found out the hard way that chatGPT will make stuff up sometimes. I asked it about implementing some Cypress setup in our GHA workflow. It took me like 30 mins of my build failing to realize the shit was made up. 😂
When I started googling what it had said and couldn't find anything on it I knew something was up.
g
the simplest way to use Cypress in your GHA is https://github.com/bahmutov/cypress-workflows

Thanks! I got it all worked out, but Ill definitely check that out to see if there's something better we can be doing with our workflows.
Oh NM missed this was an action for the workflow. This is pretty awesome, Ill have to check it out.

this is the only repo I know of that compares them side by side Mind that it's more than a year old Some day if I need to relearn PW, I'm going to create a full replica of all tests in the tour of heroes book example https://github.com/muratkeremozcan/playwright-vs-cypress
b
We should get this thing updated 😂 someone might use it as a reference
m
it's still a good reference for Cypress for PW, they update their api often, so for sure it's outdated the main take away is the readme table. Although PW doesn't like it, I stand behind every item

I was speaking mainly towards the graph at the bottom. Example - Webkit Support says "on the road" for Cypress.
