Imo the future is Continuous Deployment being de-coupled from Continuous Delivery through using feature flags, and just skip staging.
Just "test prod features " as soon as you're on dev, and whether customers see the new features is de-coupled from development.
There are neat ways to achieve that with Cypress and LaunchDarkly https://dev.to/muratkeremozcan/effective-test-strategies-for-testing-front-end-applications-using-launchdarkly-feature-flags-and-cypress-part2-testing-2c72.
Today I'd only do staging for things like load testing, automated pen testing, and other rarely ran things like that. Our org is still not mature to remove some deployments, still shifting more left.
