Manually verified link, opens in sheets with no issues. Google is responding to Composio saying the ID is possibly malformed due to the length differing from expectations. URL in payload is actually public, so you can see that it loads correctly
Unsure what can be done about this since Google is responding to you with a 400, but a customer of ours keeps running into this error.
Appreciate any insights/guidance on what can be done.Brendan O'Leary
07/13/2026, 5:38 PMGOOGLESHEETS_BATCH_GET still returns a 400 is that the file is an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV uploaded to Drive rather than a native Google Sheet. Google renders those in the viewer, but the Sheets API can't read them and rejects the call.
Could you check the file, then:
• If it shows Microsoft Excel / .xlsx in the title or File menu, open it and choose File > Save as Google Sheets, then call the tool with the new native file's ID.
• If it's already a native Google Sheet, reply with the exact spreadsheet_id value sent in the call and we'll dig into the log.

07/13/2026, 7:07 PM.xlsx at the end. So this is really just a case of a terrible error message from GoogleBrendan O'Leary
07/13/2026, 7:38 PM.xlsx detail, that is the key here, and sorry the error sent you down the wrong path.
This one is not actually Google's wording, even though it reads that way. The file is an Excel file stored in Drive rather than a native Google Sheet. Sheets renders it in the viewer so the link opens fine, but the Sheets API cannot read a non-native file and returns a 400. Composio then rewrites that 400 into the "malformed ID / typically 44 characters" text, which makes the ID look like the culprit when it is not. That misleading message is on our side, and we have flagged it internally.
To get GOOGLESHEETS_BATCH_GET working today, convert the file to a native Google Sheet:
• Open the file in Google Sheets.
• Click File > Save as Google Sheets.
• Call the tool with the new file's ID (the string after /d/ in its URL).
If your customer's workflow keeps uploading Excel files, running that conversion (or File > Import) before the batch get will avoid this going forward. Reply here if anything still looks off.
