Nice job dude.
Can you add the db config. I’m curious about how you set that up.
šŸ‘ 1
e
NodeJS is great until you watch how cringeworthy the security is.
b
What does this have to do with CFML? This looks like spam to me.
ā˜ļø 2
d
you know it has nothing to do with cfml.
I believe Yogesh has been in this slack for a while now. I don't mind another CFer sharing their other skills.

The more you know about different platforms, the better (imo). But this does not really belong in CFML General, it should be in #javascript I would think...
šŸ‘ 1
y
I have misplaced it. I will share it in correct channel from next time. Sorry for inconvenience. šŸ™‚
@Daniel Mejia Thanks. I have added db config in part 1. You can get the link for part 1 in this blog as well. I have added the github repo link as well. You can access config there too.
d
ah nice. easy setup. thanks for that.
a
I'm a bit torn on whether or not this is legit in this channel (this is me with my admin hat on). I think it's fine. This is the "general" channel for this CFML Slack instance. I reckon there's no point posting in the JS subchannel as it will have very low viewership I will say it read like spam when I first saw it. But... I'm running with "legit", and it's an interesting post @Yogesh
b
@Daniel Mejia I honestly couldn't tell who Yogesh was. I looked at his profile (generic Gmail address) and the blog post and saw no evidence that he was even a CF developer. (And, yes I do know at least one person named Yogesh, but that's a fairly common name so I couldn't confirm who he was). I've been in a lot of public Slack channels and seen bots that sign up for an account, fire a spam post into the general channel and disappear. I couldn't see how long he was a member, but this message was the only post of his that appears at all in Slack's 90 history window which made it more suspect. (I believe you may be confusing him with Yogesh Mathur from Lucid Outsourcing Solutions.) I still think it's off topic, in this channel at least. I would recommend you go post an article about how cool ColdBox MVC is in a Ruby or PHP public Slack and I doubt you'll find quite the same welcome, lol. šŸ™‚

I don't see a point in saying that, Brad. We don't all measure ourselves via the same yardstick. I have taken you opinion that it's off topic onboard. I do not think any harm has been done, but let's watch this space. @Yogesh, yeah? Maybe do sling it in the JS channel "next time".
Well we sure ran them out of town. Hooray us.

b
To be clear, I wasn't saying "harm" had been done per se. It's more of a discussion of what's appropriate in what context.
We don't all measure ourselves via the same yardstick.
My "yardstick" is that posts in this Slack team (save #random) should generally be about CFML, it's related technologies/methodologies, or how to use techs/methods alongside CFML. If a long-time CF-er posted this I may have gone "meh", but I literally couldn't find any connection that this person is even a CF coder (happy to be wrong here) which is why I thought it was possibly a bot.
d
hmmm. @Yogesh are you a CF dev?
a
^^^ there look at that. Engage with the person, not the rulebook.
My position was there's been a total of one thread here today, so... blimey, what does it matter? It looked like an interesting thing for web devs. If we were getting so much spam here it was an issue, then ... yeah... cool... get rid. I was even poised to go [delete], but the Yogesh interacted and figured "honest harmless mistake", so we can probably move on. But anyway. We are where we are.
d
it was refreshing to see the post, to be honest. Made me think about how many CFers play/work with other languages and how well we know each other as a community.
b
blimey, what does it matter?
To be clear, I'm not up in arms over this. I pointed out it looked like spam, and after receiving push back, I explained how I reached that conclusion. 🤷
a
(I +1ed your spam comment, btw šŸ˜‰

b
I would actually like to see an article that compared side by side Express and ColdBox for example. That would be rather applicable.
šŸ’Æ 1
d
I still haven't ruled it out. could be a real active bot for all I know - with some sort of AI and feelings for my desire to learn the db setup. lol
😁 1
a
The ironic(?) thing is now I feel like reading about it specifically because the situation it engendered. But I'm a contrary prick so that explains that one. And, yes, I think the more exposure CFMLers get to complementary technologies is nothing but good for those CFMLers. Too many of them are just them and their six tags.
Yer lucky I'm not posting my PHP blog articles here Brad. I think we can all be thankful of that eh? šŸ˜„
šŸ’„ 1
d
delete php right away.
a
Don't you start now.
d
but keep nodejs stuff from bots lol

b
Sure, but I'd rather see this CFML Slack be a space that encourages CF devs with articles about CF frameworks they can try first. We're already losing devs to other language such as Node-- devs that many times couldn't be bothered to use the tools CF offered them. If we're going to proselytize anything here, I'd like to keep it in the CF space personally.

OK so today's legit thread: 29 responses. The "spam" one: currently 35.

I'm gonna start posting CFML examples in tag format and get banned you just watch lol

I'm gonna go tell the engineers to add the cftakata tag now. I have no idea what it does. Probably get drunk and yell at traffic?
b
The big features of 2023 for sure

Yeah Brad I know what you mean: CFML slack for CFML stuff. but reality is... not much CFML stuff being produced. I mean do the CFML bloggers (other than me, when I do one), even link to their articles here? The reality is - and it's a good reality - there's lots of technology out there, and I honestly (ie: not just so I can disagree with you) that exposing CFMLers to other stuff that could be handy is a good.
m
Yikes, me and Adam AGREE on something? Maybe all this "doomsday clock" nonsense is for real.
a
Given how CFMLers tend to be, this might be the only dev community participation they actually do. But like I 99% agree with you. As per usual.
not much CFML stuff being produced
Sorry to clarify, I mean "Much CFML content" on here
I know there's bagloads of CFML stuff being produced. Relatively speaking.
b
The entire internet, every tech conference, and half the CF conferences already sell devs on non-CF tech. And not a single non-CF conference will ever entertain a CF topic to "expose" their users (I've tried for years). If we believe CF is the bees knees, then we should focus on that because we're the only people rooting for it. Goodness knows the rest of the world is already pushing the alternatives.
a
Yeah but you don't need to root for it here. Job's been done.
b
That's why I don't disagree with the sentiment that CF devs shold get exposure. But if I'm running a CF conference for example, I'm not going to waste those resources on non-CF exposure when that can be gotten literally anywhere else.
a
I really liked the non-CFML tracks @ the CFML conferences I went to. It's where I started finding out about more stuff. Granted more the "general dev concepts" (ORM, coding practices, message queues etc), than "here's a Ruby presentation @ a CFML conf"
b
Yeah, I thought those were a waste šŸ™‚ Everyone liked to gush over them, but the reality is, like I said, zero other conferences are pushing CF tech so it's a net loss IMO if we "help" them and they ignore us.
But I guess I have a bit more of a "chip on the shouler" us vs the world sort of take on it šŸ˜‰
a
Well.
šŸ˜‰
b
This sounds like podcast fodder. Quick, tweet something about this, so we can discuss it on the next episode, lol
a
HA
d
lol
a
I often think the only time I'd be any good up front @ a conference would be sitting around a contrived pub table having like a dev concept "jam session" with someone/ppl
m
Oh that reminds me, next Summit we are having an entire Sveltekit track called "annoy brad". šŸ˜‰

Agreed- the afterparty talk is the best. Adobe just has a nasty habit of having a band the volume of a jet engine in the background

You and I agree there Brad

kinda why this Slack is my option of last resort. I find if it is a beginner question, its like ducks on a june bug, but if it requires thought or effort - crickets. In this thread ya'll come of as elitists looking down yer nose instead of the folks that made CF embraceable by noobs. "put on your thick skin before you enter here".
I need to get back to work and concentrate on my 6 tags
a
Sorry Michael, what?
s
And not a single non-CF conference will ever entertain a CF topic to "expose" their users (I've tried for years).
FWIW, I have given CFML (+ Clojure) talks to Clojure meetups and at Clojure conferences -- but I'm definitely seen as "that weird guy who mixes legacy technology with Clojure"...
a
@Michael Gillespie did someone not answer your question in a timely fashion? I try to answer every single question I know the answer to, or if I can work it out, if I can work out what the person is asking. Sorry if it's not worked out for you. But go on... linky us to it, or reply to it so it bubbles back up, and I can look. No promises though.
m
Its not about me Adam..its the prevailing attitude illustrated quite plainly in this thread.
a
What me 'n' Brad discussing what constitutes spam here?
m
Did you also notice that the post was deleted here, but not reposted in the js channel?
a
Yeah I did. That's a shame. To be clear, it wasn't me (or, to my knowledge) another admin who did it; presume it was Yogesh? I thought it was fine. OT but harmless. Which, given you appear to have read the thread, would know already.
