If you'd be willing to go $50 up, my favorite monitor is the LG UltraWide series. CostCo has one for $249 (34" but that's misleading as the height is the same as a normal monitor). I stack mine.

I have 3 of the damn things lol (my work machine has a 19" stacked on top of the 34". What's great is that they are wide enough to have 2 full size windows side by side.

I am not sure I would be into the need for a ultra wide but I wouldnt mind looking; what model are those @Marc Funaro and/or @Mark Takata (Adobe)?

I use hdmi, I primarily code, dont need a super fancy view haha

Ah! Yeah, I honestly don't see the differences visually between the two, but these days my NVIDIA card only has 1 HDMI and 3 DP spots so I've just given in to the inevitable lol

a very comfortable trackball. nice contrast to the mouse that i use in my studio, so I'm always switching back and forth. prevents repetitive stress between the two types of work 😉

I do not use trackballs. I use absolutely ridiculous gaming mice with enough LEDs to light up a Lexus, with tracking at 10.5billion pixels per second, just so I can firmly click on VS Code and spend the rest of my day typing. On my, also ridiculous, mechanical keyboard. lol.

I really like my LG 34" Curved monitor for my home setup: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YGZ7C1K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1. It's closer to the $500 price range, but the curved screen has been worth it to me. With 3440 pixels horizontally, you almost get two HD-wide windows side-by-side. And the 1440 pixels vertically reduce scrolling just a bit.

When I read the 1-star reviews on nearly all monitors; well all monitors have major red-flag issues. I have had nice LG ones for years but now I am skeptical of what Brand to go with.

I sometimes wonder at the 1 star ones. Like, I dunno, I feel like sometimes shit happens and you get a bad one, but sometimes it's like "Yeah, this thing fell down my stairs and my pet possum took a leak on it and now there's 4 dead pixels, 1 star total crap" and you just have to laugh.

Whether it is new or second hand; I just go with the size I want at a decent refresh rate (above 60Hz) and at least 2k resolution. Then I check the prices, the warranty length and the "replacement / repair" options while under warranty. (on site / Return to base / etc) Not "monitor" related - but for eye-strain etc : - for coding I always make sure that I use a fixed-width font. I use Hack or Inconsolata I LOVE mechanical keyboards - but they are pretty noisy even the quietest... I f am coding late / after my wife has gone to bed - she often complains that she can hear my typing 2 rooms away. I use VSCode with the VIM plugin/ extension - so I don't do a lot of "mouse" work... (I love VIM movements) But for the occasional game - I just make sure it has decent DPI and speed. Oh and I have a massive mouse pad that is nearly the size of my desk! All RGB of course - because you're never too old for some bling.

Long time fan of Dell monitors, U series are especially great, if buying now I think going with something like U2722D
