the useit snippet isn't using the exact version slug, just
cfengine=lucee
https://www.forgebox.io/view/lucee/version/5.3.8-SNAPSHOT+233 ?
b
@zackster That part of the page is just generic package information
you can get the version-specific install string from the versions tab
message has been deleted
I actually never even knew the individual versions were a link-- the link doesn't seem to load anything but the main package page
@Javier Quintero is this correct?
Why does https://www.forgebox.io/view/lucee/version/5.3.10-SNAPSHOT+91 for example just load the general package info
Is that link supposed to load something specific to the version
j
each version has its own description, changelog, installation instructions and that’s what it loads when navigating to a specific version
You are right, the use it section needs to be updated to include the specific version. It does that for other packages but not for the cfengines.
I will create a ticket for that. @bdw429s @zackster
b
@Javier Quintero maybe there should be some other indication in the screen that were viewing info for a specific version. It really wasn't clear at all outside of looking at the URL that it wasn't showing the latest package info.
j
There is a one. Look @bdw429s
z
i found that coz i wanted to link to the exact forgebox page from the 5.3.9.94-RC release announcement
b
@Javier Quintero Oh crazy, I looked all over that page and never noticed it. To be honest, as a user of ForgeBox I mostly ignore that right hand column-- all the information I use is in the main area of the page. I was expecting the version to be in parenthesis or something as part of the main page title, or on the "Description" tab. I see now the version does also show in a little colored box to the right of the main heading but I didn't see that as well. It's funny I was actively looking for it and didn't see either of those places. not sure how to improve that, or perhaps I'm just blind, lol
j
lol. well, if you have a better idea to make it more visible/obvious just let me know :)
b
I think in my mind I was expecting something to pop out of the page that's not normally there and grab my attention
💥 1
Everything there just blended in too well and looked like the normal every-day information
A color like red in a place it's not normally there
z
<blink> or <marque> pops out ?
b
Anyway, it's probably not a huge deal. Just caught me off guard
lol, blink
I don't know about other people, but my brain ignores all the stuff on the screen I don't normally need, so I was just totally ignoring the parts that listed the version because it looked like the normal boilerplate text on the page
For example, the my church uses an app to put together the "powerpoint" for our services has a big red banner across the top when I open it that says "*You're viewing an old service, use the file menu to open a future service*" etc. It's impossible to miss because it's a big red bar across the top of the UI that's not normally there
Looking at npm however, I'm a little surprised that they don't go through much trouble at all to inform you when you're viewing a previous version 🤔 The page basically looks the same
j
I think, it’s because the only links we have are in the versions table, so If you click one of those the user will expect to see that specific version
but of course is not that obvious if someone sends you a link
b
Right, I didn't even realize at first that the link Zac sent had a version in it
Then when I saw that, I was confused because I didn't even know that was a feature, yet the webpage looked the same as normal to me!
j
Now that you know you will double check 😛
