Not sure what specific TLS issue you are having, but upgrading Java is often a good way to go (to the latest Java 11 release), however if could also be that the more recent version of java have disabled TLSv1 and TLSv1.1 support by default: https://www.petefreitag.com/item/916.cfm

upgrading lucee itself probably would only help you if the CA certificate that signed your SMTP server’s certificate is not in the
