Wheels 4.0's testing story got a major upgrade. Three pieces: • Browser testing via Playwright Java —
BrowserTest
base class, fluent DSL (visit, click, fill, assertSee, resize, screenshot, cookies, loginAs). Real Chromium under the hood.
wheels browser setup
to set up. • HTTP test client —
TestClient.visit("/users").assertOk().assertSee("John")
. Assertions for status, body, JSON (
assertJsonPath
with dot notation), redirects, headers, cookies across requests. • Parallel test runner — discovers bundles, partitions across N workers via round-robin, fires parallel HTTP requests, aggregates JSON results. Plus the inner-loop win:
bash tools/test-local.sh
runs the full core suite on LuCLI + SQLite in ~60s. No Docker. CI matches. WheelsTest BDD is the only style for new tests. RocketUnit is legacy-only. <Full Audit> <Read the full post>
