Just watched a really informative presentation by @carehart about CFSetup -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_UfNptoz4U

(missed it yesterday due to meetings). My anticipation of "am I forgetting something" has significantly reduced after seeing what CFSetup can do -- and especially how to use it! Thanks for the nice demo!

This was a great presentation and certainly shows how to make your life easier if you are in control of multiple servers. Thank Charlie !

Thanks, so much, guys. Really glad to help, and I do hope that more and more people will learn about and leverage that tool.

Fellas consider looking at commandbox with cfconfig 1. Download commandbox https://www.ortussolutions.com/products/commandbox#download 2. Install Cfconfig - https://cfconfig.ortusbooks.com/using-the-cli/installation
Now that we have 2 tools to choose from it would be great for the community to provide feedback on why they choose the tools they choose to keep the innovation going.

Daniel, to be clear I do cover cfconfig some in that talk, and more in one I did last year. The focus here was indeed on cfsetup primarily, since I'm not aware of ANYONE having presented (or even blogged) about it. :-) And as for your looking for feedback, if you mean on cfsetup, I suspect that 99.99% of cfers are totally unaware of it (and that includes those using cfconfig). So I'd not have much hope for much feedback now, or even for a while. But we'll see. If instead you really are asking about the broader question of having choices like Coke and Pepsi in our tools, that's certainly a different question. :-)
d
now that you mention it hasn't really been adverstised kinda just tells me ..... well.... I am sure Adobe has their reasons.
cfsetup is not bad, Adobe should add it to forgebox.io and make a commandbox command for it. Just because its an alternative to cfconfig doesn't mean it can't be widely used or used with commandbox.
c
Well, there are hundreds of things in cf that Adobe (and others) never talk about--and there are even often a few DOZEN new things in each release that they don't talk much beyond the docs (and that virtually no one else does). This is not unique to Adobe.
I presented on it to give it attention--and sure, as people use it they may find warts. FWIW, Brad has acknowledged that its back up on import is a useful thing that cfconfig could incorporate. I don't see it as a zero-sum game. Each can innovate, just like happens with ACF and Lucee (and not always only in "one direction").
As for the idea of someone offering it on forgebox, that's an interesting idea. I suspect some would carp at two such similar things there, but maybe there are other instances of that. I doubt Adobe will bother, but I could be wrong. And while someone who is a fan of cfsetup could be motivated, I do think it's a stretch to think someone big on forgebox would want to risk blowback that some in the community might offer. Of course, someone could do it as merely a learning exercise for adding things to forgebox. Again, time will tell.

two or more things of the same thing in forgebox is welcomed, and yes there are plenty of examples of that.
