For those who hadn't heard the news yet, a new JVM...

For those who hadn't heard the news yet, a new JVM was released yesterday (they are updated quarterly). I offer more details, including resources and additional thoughts, in my post at https://www.carehart.org/blog/2025/1/21/java_updates_jan_2025, which points to additional posts/resources I offer with still more info on updating the JVM, whether running CF or Lucee, as well as when using eitehr with Commandbox.

For some reason, 11.0.26 isn't up on the Adobe downloads site yet probably not the other recent releases too As Charlie points out in his blog post, you can get it directly from Oracle.
c
Right, and I also point out in my post (before offering the oracle link) that often the Adobe-offered Java downloads are delayed by a couple of days. So not really "news", but perhaps you felt some may not be aware. :-) and yep, for those compelled to move ASAP, they can use that oracle download page. (And yes, those on Lucee can use openjdk, which Adobe doesn't support, while those on Commandbox can use its feature to obtain and implement Java under either cf or Lucee. More as discussed/linked to in the post.)

There will likely be a delay as our engineers are hard at work testing CF25, fixing bugs, etc. for the impending launch. Certifying a new JVM version is a big lift, even with a bevy of automated tests. So... yeah, haha, give us a minute on it. But like Charlie said, you can grab the Oracle link and test it out on your dev env and see if anything lights on fire 🙂

Thanks Mark. And FWIW, folks, I'd already switched to it yesterday and no problems so far. FWIW, I can't think of any time we were told after a release, "Don't go to that updated jvm". There have BEEN occasional unexpected impacts...which is why I try to highlight any jvm changes that seem noteworthy, in these posts I do on each jvm update. And I also point to one's that have had ongoing impact from recent jvm updates, since many people will skip/delay/miss applying every one. :-)

Thanks Charlie, you are the best!

Thanks, Billy. As always, I just want to help. :-)

@Mark Takata (Adobe) roughly how long a delay? Days/weeks/months?
m
Not sure Dave. Probably days/weeks. Not months. But like Charlie says, you're free to update prior, just suggest you test it.

Has anyone seen any issues running CF 2021 with Java 11.0.26? We haven't, without full testing.
