Hey everyone, long time no see! I have been working really hard with @micha on making Lucee 6.2 our best release ever. It's roughly 50% faster on a lot of micro-benchmarks. The final RC, 6.2.0.284 is out, it's been a while since the last RC, we identified a lot of performance and stability improvements which we have addressed. You can see the performance improvements here https://github.com/lucee/lucee-testlab/actions/runs/12755850733/attempts/1#summary-35554038120 Please test out the RC, we recommend java 21 as your apps will run both faster and use less memory without any code changes

We did recently, disable the automatic
system.GC()
https://luceeserver.atlassian.net/browse/LDEV-5246 which means a few benchmarks show the last RC performing better, but without it, your apps should over time perform more consistently, as per the task there is a ENV var to re-enable the old behaviour
interaction with java objects is really improved, both underload and performance wise, which solves some long existing problems with previously versions.
If you are still on 5.4 which is no longer being maintained (bar security fixes) and no longer receiving updates, this is a really good version to finally upgrade to
We also disabled PRECISE_MATH by default in 6.2 (which was enabled since 6), it added a lot of overhead performance wise, so if you are working with very large numbers and lucee 6, you may want to re-enable it https://github.com/lucee/lucee-docs/blob/master/docs/recipes/mathematical-precision.md
wokring with java is also much improved, once nice tweak is the support for gradle style definitions https://luceeserver.atlassian.net/browse/LDEV-5124
Copy code
component javaSettings = '{
    maven:[
          "org.graalvm.polyglot:polyglot:24.1.1"
        , "org.graalvm.polyglot:python:24.1.1"
    ]
}'

@zackster -- it looks like LDEV-4835 is still broken on my test suite. I see there were some commits for it, but can somebody verify that it got included in that RC build?
z
it's definately in there, please comment on the task
I have a rest mapping defined in the admin and with the RC, it now works after a immediately after restart, steps to repo your problem would be great

Great work!

thanks mate, be interesting to see how we'd fair with this RC on the techempower benchmarks

there are some new ENV vars for perf tuning as well, YMML large initial scope sizes (default is 4) for args and local scopes https://luceeserver.atlassian.net/browse/LDEV-5156 change the default max threads for ArrayEach/etc parallel, good for taming bad code or using massive servers https://luceeserver.atlassian.net/browse/LDEV-5205

Hey zackster, thank you for letting us know! It has been so long, many of us were starting to wonder 😉 . My best to you, Micha, and the team. Cheers.

This type of communication is a breath of fresh air. You’ve been missed @zackster. Great work.
Is there a targeted release date for 6.2?
q
@zackster -- commented on the ticket. If you launch with a completely fresh container, I can get it to fail everytime. It looks like when a fresh container is launched, the .cfConfig.json is missing, and on first hit, it adds the default settings to it AFTER the onApplicationStart(), so subsequent loads of the app in the demo will work.

Amazing work!
