I applied the CF2021 update and latest Java this morning. Now receiving this error - "net/sf/ehcache/config/CacheConfiguration null". Anyone?
👀 1
Reverting to Java 11.0.24 did not fix it. Rolling back my ColdFusion update did.
It was CF2021.17. Reverted back to 16.
j
Did you clear your felix-cache? I know they made a note of it on the release notes but I don’t know if that impacts what you were experiencing.
👍🏻 1
j
I read about that but it didn’t appear relevant.
I cleared templates like usual. I also attempted to “disable” the cache by setting it to zero.
j
I would clear that and the cfclasses folder and restart and see if you still experience
👍🏻 1
j
I’ll give it a shot. Thanks.
j
You’re welcome!
d
@jakobward Did any of those maneuvers help? Which one(s)? Did you eventually get the .17 install stabilized? FWIW, I didn't see that, once I got the installer to run there were no problems.
j
I haven’t tried again. I was exhausted after getting up so early the first time. It will be sometime this week.
b
I also got it running successfully, but I did clear that felix-cache.

Attempting this again. There is no felix-cache folder in my bin folder. 🤷🏻‍♂️ There were two ehcache jars in my lib folder. However, removing the older one just presented new errors. I’ll try again in a week or so. Thanks all…

Still no comment from Adobe (or anyone else) on the ticket I filed about the installer not running issue.
So after quite a bit of time, no comment, possible explanation, or suggested fixes for the CF 2021 Update 17 installer not running issue, not great. I gather it hasn't affected very many people, but it's not just me, and not just one of our servers. I'm continuing as if I thought it's likely to work, since I don't see any other choice, but consider this a grumble.
n
We're getting this in CF2023 hotfix 11 as well. I reached out to Adobe for support. Will update if something fixes it.

d
@Nick you're asking about the installer not running issue, yes? FWIW, both of my production 2021 upgrades went fine, zero drama.
n
No, installer worked. We're getting "net/sf/ehcache/config/CacheConfiguration null"
👍🏻 1
We uninstalled and reinstalled the cache package - no change
Haven't uninstalled and reinstalled the hotfix, though that's the obvious next step. Have to wait till after business hours for that, tho
j
@Nick I'd be happy to hear how things went and if you made any progress. I'm still in the same boat.
n
Hate to say it, but we took things from bad to worse. We uninstalled and reinstalled the core server and packages, including following Adobe's support about clearing certain folders. It seemed that we may have fixed the cache issue, but then the ftp and document and htmltopdf packages started saying they weren't installed, even though they were. Time was against us, so we tried reinstalling ColdFusion completely. But the .car file we took from the buggy build was corrupted. None of our datasources or scheduled tasks were restored. Ultimately, we had to restore the VM from a restore point, which was easier than starting from scratch. We haven't tried reinstalling hotfix 11 again yet. We're setting up a fail-over server before we try again.

Ouch
j
@Nick Ouch. Ok. Yours sounds like a similar configuration to my productions server and I have limited access to backups and the sort at this point. I think I'll wait it out! Thanks for the knowledge.

Good luck!

Adobe really needs to know that this level of malfunction has happened in the wild. They might be able to help maybe.

I have a ticket open
Unfortunately, not much they can do to troubleshoot, but they are aware

@Nick Cool, I just searched but couldn't find anything in the tracker. I searched description by 'CacheConfiguration'.
n
Yeah, I didn't put it in the tracker because we were rushing to fix it. Plus now, I don't have the error to answer their questions on anymore. I reached out to Adobe via their support email / Zendesk ticketing that we have with our CF license.

j
Ah! By ticket I thought you meant tracker. My mistake.

I just saw this post and I updated my CF 2023 to update 11 and cleared out the Felix cache. But I have a page that wasn’t loading. I googled the issue and it appears to invoice cached queries. So I removed the cached within portion of the cfquery and the page works fine, but as soon as I put it back the page does not even load. Just a blank page. Then I went to the log and it says net/sf/ehcache/config/cacheconfiguration then the page name. Then I went into the cache admin page and cleared out all caches via the admin. Retried my page and still just a white page. Any new info on a solution?
j
Nothing yet here.
j
I had this issue a while back but didn’t narrow it down so I uninstalled update 11. Today I narrowed down the issue but without a solution, Looks like I’ll have to do it again.
n
Make sure to re-download hotfix 11. I got the impression they had the CF Admin pointed to a buggy hotfix for a period of time. I'm just reading between the lines on that, though. Go to /Coldfusion2023/bundles/undateinstallers and delete hotfix-011-*.jar or move it off to some temp directory.
j
I just downloaded it last week and tried it today.
n
Ugh, welp... 😞
j
I see there was an ehcache update. Wish I could undo that update haha. I guess I’ll go back to update 10 for now. If anyone has a solution please let us know.
1
Does update 12 resolve the issue that some of us were getting with the ehcache error? If the issue isn’t resolved, I’m going to be stuck on update 10.
Ok I got the same error with update 12. I posted in the bug tracker CF-4225070

Thanks for the update.
j
@Mark Takata (Adobe) Can you look into this issue? I’m not able to update CF 2023 past update 10 because of this ehcache issue.

@priyank_adobe is this on our radar yet? Any workarounds we've found?

I’ve put in a bug tracker item but I’m sure that my IT security will be flagging me soon to get the updates installed. So anything you all can do to help is appreciated

j
Yes, please. CF2021 also stuck. There is a bug tracker and I upvoted.

Hi Justin, can we connect and I will help you with this.
j
Sure. My email is Justin.s.cook@lmco.com if you want to email me and then go from there?
j
@priyank_adobe There’s a list of us waiting. So, please share a solution if you all resolve it.

j
Yes it’s not just me
p
I don't have the resolution, I can troubleshoot, if one of can come on a call. I did help a user today to resolve the issue.
👍🏻 1
You can DM me and I will send the meeting invite for today to troubleshoot.
Hi All, I went on a call with Justin just now and we resolved the issue. Steps to follow 1. Make sure the bundles are available(Offline/Online). 2. Install the update (for command line - make sure to use the java -Djdk.util.zip.disableZip64ExtraFieldValidation=true -jar hotfix.jar.) 3. Once it is installed, go to packages and check if the Caching package is showing 2023.0.11.330706. if it is not installed, upgrade the package from the dropdown list. 4. Stop ColdFusion 5. Clear Felix-cache 6. Start ColdFusion and test your application.

THANK YOU PRIYANK!! ❤️

@priyank_adobe one thing your instructions fail to mention is that we have to reinstall the packages such as Admin before we go back into the admin panel.
Also the zip folder online had to be redownloaded for the updated packages to be included
p
@justincook that will be installed if the bundles folder is properly linked and it is showing the latest update. In your case, the issue was with the bundlesdependency.json.
