I did a dumb thing and installed on-premise FR on a server that doesn't need it. What's the simplest and least destructive way to remove it? Alternatively, I could just leave it there unlicensed, but I'm not sure what or how serious the downsides are. It must consume "some" resources, I'd think. Thoughts anyone?

It will continue to create the log files of all the requests it's monitoring after the trial version expires. So yes it will definitely continue running. I can't help with the install - I installed it manually(added some jvm args and downloaded a few files). If your installation modified the jvm args the I would assume removing those args and restarting the cf service would enough.

I used the full installer UI, so I'm not 100% what it did. It must have modified some jvm args to tie itself in though.
Poo on me for not backing up the cfusion dir first.
And poo on me for not reading all the docs. There's an uninstaller in the FR directory, just run it, sorted.

cool
Did you see if the FR installer also added JVM args?

You can just remove the java agent jvm arg, but the uninstaller should do that and more.
