It might be worth mentioning that speakers do get a conference ticket and usually a hotel room as thanks for speaking (or they have at conferences I've spoken at in the past) and get to meet Mark of course.

The last time I spoke at a CF conference in the US I had to take red eye flights via Amsterdam, so when returning home to the UK very jet lagged I was immediately pulled over by the police and questioned on what the purpose of my visit to Amsterdam was.

I highly doubt anyone would want to hear my "fascinating" exploits of programming for "job efficiency" and other ways to maximize time screwing off at work.
