I may have asked about this a few months ago but I wonder if anyone has seen an issue with 5.4.5.23 and the last few 5.x versions in which the web administrator ignores the cfconfig admin password but the server context works. On the web site we get
Access is protected, to access the configuration without a password, you need to change the access to [open] in the Server Administrator
g
I Missed your earlier thread - sorry. I am having exactly the same issue with the same version. You can use the following workaround. 1. Set Access to OPEN in the SERVER page. a. (This does not work - it does NOT allow access to the WEB admin.) 2. Set a new Password for the web context in question.
s
Ha, interesting. Thank you!
How do you set a new password for the web context? The 'password' section doesn't seem to do it
g
I started typing and including screenshots!!! then I realised what you were asking. lets change my steps to: 1. Set Access to OPEN in the SERVER page. a. (This does not work - it does NOT allow access to the WEB admin.) 2. Set Default Password 3. Set a new Password for the web context in question. Now when you do step 3 your web context will have the default password.
s
I did the top one here and then clicked 'reset' for the bottom one on the web context but it didn't do anything -- still get the same error.
g
it doesn't show in your screenshot - but I assume you used the drop-down in "Reset Password" and chose the web context you're trying to get access to? So in mine I am resetting the password for the application in "/app/wwwroot" To the default password that I set in Step 2.

Yup

I am unsure what to tell you Sam. It wasn't working for me for a really long time - And then it just did a couple of days ago. I can only suggest you try again. That perhaps you restart the service - and then retry the process again? We're using docker containers - so killing an instance off and restarting a new one is a really quick process.
s
We also use docker. I'm not clear what happens when you click 'reset' -- for me it is nothing
Like where do you actually input the new pw for the web context
g
I have "password" as the password for the "Server" context. I then use Set defaullt password - and use passPass. (pressing UPDATE) Then,| I choose the web context I want to reset in the drop down Press reset. If I log out of the cfadmin. I can log into the "Server" with "password" I can log into the "web" with "passpass"
You can set the SERVER password with a password.txt file or cfconfig. (I THINK you can use cfconfig to do the web admin, one too.) I just haven;t bothered to try it via cfconfig - as it was just an annoyance at the moment in "dev" - we don't have scheduled tasks defined in our DEV containers - do really didn;t need access to the WEB admin.
wow - that was some of the worst English I have ever typed! :)
Actually I think I tried to use cfconfig to reset the web admin password - but it didn't work for us.
irrespective it is a pain in the ass and certainly a change from how it was working previously.

I wonder whether it is different here because doing those exact things still results in 'Access is protected, you need to change the access to [open] in the server administrator' -- the only thing I am doing you aren't is using cfconfig to set these values initially in the docker container.
at any rate, no luck getting to web admin even after setting both to open, resetting the web context, etc
