@Mark Takata (Adobe) I realise this isn't specifically a YOU thing... But hopefully you'll know who to bother - or who I can bother... If I google a CFML function I'll get an ACF docs link - which is great. I'll choose the link offered, Then I get a pop-up - stating (something like) "We see you're in Australia - would you like us to swap you to your location's version of this page" If I choose yes : then I get a 404 - because you don't have CFML documentation specifically for our region. AND It is slightly annoying to get asked all the time... Yes it is just "a" click to say NO. Yes it is a first world problem.
a
Yeah - we've had that in the UK as well - it is annoying
a
+1 annoying and quite rubbish. Why offer to change sites if the site being changed to doesn't have the content?!
m
Well, I am high lord of documentation (unofficial). The issue here is that to redo the docs into the king's English and into down-under-gab would be quite difficult. You chaps are tough to pin down to do a translation. I tried AI and it was alright. Here's a taste of <CFOUTPUT>:
"Showcases a bit of what's what that might include the fruits of tinkering with ColdFusion bits and bobs and their functions. Can have a jolly good go 'round the outcomes of a database chinwag."
Would that do? (I'll see if we even have access to that stuff, its an Adobe wide system so I'm not sure if we can turn it off)
a
Well, that is a lot clearer to me as an Englishman, but you seem to have lumped everyone who speaks English into USA and everyone else 🙂

I think with the recent "nonce" discussion, we have established that USAns can't credibly be described as English-speakers.
#jingoism
(cue someone to point out that this bloody Kiwi should be the last person do discredit someone's ability to communicate clearly in English)
m
lmao
BTW English is my 2nd language so apologies ahead of time 😉
Hey @priyank_adobe do you know if helpx can be set up to default to English if the region being suggested doesn't exist in our system? Or not show the suggestion if we don't have regional content?

Let me check with the localization teams. I am not too sure though.

This is what I have from the localization team- It's just like that. If any of the supported language pages aren't in HelpX, users will return to the English page instead. This is taken care of on the server side.
g
But users don't get returned to the English page. Users get a 404.
s
Can you please add the url here?
g
I cannot duplicate, now! You sneaky buggers fixed it in the background - and then said "What error... I get no error!"
s
That is strange and we haven't fixed anything yet. Can you please share the url? we can take a look.
g
I can't say which one exactly.. I would do a google search for a CFML function. Click on the link - and then get a modal - saying something along the lines of "you're in australia - would you like to swap to that region?" If you say YES - you get a 404. Right now if I go to the Doc page - I don't get prompted to change my region. I have tried with INCOGNITO I have tried with being logged into Adobe Without Being logged into adobe. I have tried with Firefox, too And I can no longer replicate it.
If I come across it again I will provide some screenshots / url's here.

Thank you @gavinbaumanis If you find similar occurrences, drop a mail to saghosh@adobe.com

Someone's fixed something, @saghosh. It was happening for every docs link from google before; now it's not.
