Hello everyone, We are using MySQL 5.7.42 in current blue dragon. So, planning to upgrade to CF 2021 so installed MySQL Connector/J 5.1.8 JDBC driver in CF 2021 (AWS) and trying to create a data source but getting below error. Could you please someone help me on this?
Connection verification failed for data source: prodDB
com.mysql.cj.jdbc.exceptions.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure The last packet sent successfully to the server was 0 milliseconds ago. The driver has not received any packets from the server.

Since this is an Adobe-specific question (and presumably "AWS" means the Adobe AWS Image rather than an EC2 instance you installed CF 2021 on yourself), you might do better to ask in the #adobe channel where the Adobe CF team are monitoring questions and are more likely to help?

Sean I think they're running BlueDragon CFML, not ACF
oh oh oh I see, upgrade. Sorry my bad.

We are trying to connect MySQL 5.7.42 from CF 2021
s
They said "upgrade to CF 2021" -- ACF? -- BlueDragon is long dead at this point.

I've been up since 5am lol
GV are the correct ports open on your AWS instance?
g
Yes, but let me double check

I haven't played much with MySQL in AWS, but Sami Hoda might be able to help there. he's our "CF mole" inside AWS 🙂 samihoda@amazon.com

thanks @Mark Takata (Adobe)

What exactly is "current BlueDragon"? I've not heard mention of BD for 15+ years... is that even still a thing?

Yes. We are migrating to CF 2021

Firstly, does the datasource "verify" in the CFIDE? Is the New ACF server in the same VPC as the BD server? Do you have an AWS Application Load Balancer / Network Load Balancer? Lastly check your security groups that are applied to the application server and the RDS instance, too - look for whitelisted / blacklisted instances / IPs And ensure that your new box has the same permissions / security groups / etc adsigned to it - as the BD server does.

BlueDragon still exists as a commercial product from New Atlanta. We are migrating off it too.

@GVJustDOIT, I would suggest you try the newest MySQL 8 driver. To do so, proceed as follows: 1. Stop ColdFusion 2021. 2. Remove the current MySQL driver Jar from {CF_HOME}/cfusion/lib and back it up somewhere. 3. Go to https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/ , select "Platform Independent" from the dropdown, and download the Zip file. It contains the Jar file of the newest MySQL 8 driver. 4. Extract the Zip, copy the Jar file to {CF_HOME}/cfusion/lib. 5. Restart ColdFusion 2021.

Sure @bkbk thank you so much for the detailed steps.
