I'm on the LAS "HIbernate ORM Engine" extension, version 3.5.5.89 but the LAS version has been abandoned in favor of the Ortus fork (IIRC). What's the least disruptive path to getting from the LAS version 3.5.5.89 to the Ortus ORM Extension? I want the least disruptive first step as possible before ratcheting up versions. So is there an Ortus version that's roughly equivalent or will this force an upgrade?

The Ortus extension already has the new version of Hibernate
@mborn can elaborate further

@jamiejackson the Ortus extension is a fork of the Lucee Hibernate extension version
5.4.29.27-BETA
. There is no corollary to the 3.5 version. So if you want to avoid a Hibernate upgrade, you'll need to manually install the Lucee 3.5 extension.

If you want a seamless upgrade to the Ortus ORM Extension (OOE), and don't mind bumping to Hibernate 5.4, give OOE v6.2.0 a shot. You should see some dramatic startup time improvements, though you may also find a few bugs due to the hibernate version change.
But IMO, if you're going to jump onto hibernate 5 you may as well go for (Hibernate) 5.6, as there won't be any significant difference or pain once you're on v5. You can get Hibernate 5.6 with OOE v6.3.0.

Thanks for the info. I'll explore OOE v6.3.0

Happy to help. If you have any feedback, send it on. 🙂
j
thanks, @mborn. is there an upgrade guide and/or a list of gotchas out there somewhere? i tried swapping it out locally and my mura app is throwing an error.
m
No, we don't currently have a hibernate 3.x to 5.x upgrade guide. I would love to add one, though, it's a good idea.
j
i think troubleshooting will be complicated by the fact that this is nested into mura's & di/1's guts. you get stuff like
bean not found: ResourceCollection
, instead of useful, direct messages.
generally, mura seems to swallow errors that i'd prefer it not to.
m
Yeah, the cause is likely buried in the stack trace. You have to look for "Caused By" towards the bottom. This happens even without Mura in play, Lucee puts the more immediate context at the top of the stack trace where it belongs.
q
@mborn I'm pretty sure that Mura didn't use the CF ORM under the hood -- so it shouldn't be impacted by any of those changes.

Closing the loop: The issue that I saw was unrelated to the ORM extension migration/upgrade. With that out of the way, it's smooth sailing so far!

Great to hear, @jamiejackson!
