I'm using the CF Builder extension and attempting to add a server running via commandbox. at my terminal, I did: box server info property=serverHomeDirectory. That gave me a directory. I put that into serverhome and CFB insists its wrong. does it expect another folder?
b
I'm wanting to say they want the cfusion or web-inf folder which is south of the CommandBox server home
Their docs/help was always a little vague in this area
@raymondcamden
r
no cfusion dir. web-inf was there but not valid
oh, found cfusion under web-inf, but that failed too
b
Well dang, hopefully an Adobe bod can chime in or someone else. I played with this when it first came out but it's been a hot minute.
r
thank you for trying
b
There wasn't anything it really did that I cared about that I couldn't get in the other CFML community extensions so I haven't used it since
s
@raymondcamden Just to check, the "server running via commandbox" is ACF, not Lucee, right?
r
yep
good question though 🙂
s
(since CFB doesn't support Lucee because it depends on RDS I think... er, is RDS enabled on your ACF server?)
r
um good question. i know everything is modular now. let me check
RDS isnt a package from what i can see
s
Maybe it's locked down by default and you need to explicitly turn it on for dev? (that would shock me, with Adobe's record on stuff but... hey, maybe?)
r
ok, rds was turned off. lets see if that helps in CFB
b
That actually jogs a memory for me. CommandBox does block RDS in default mode. I have no idea if that's causing the error or not.
If this is a dev server, set
Copy code
server set profile=none
r
um hmmm
so in CF Admin, you can enable RDS and say no authentication, but if you leave the password blank, it gives you an error 😕
b
Or, if you want CommandBox secure profiles but just want RDS enabled, there are instructions in this section of the docs to turn on JUST RDS while leaving the rest of the lockdown in place https://commandbox.ortusbooks.com/embedded-server/configuring-your-server/server-rules/baked-in-rules#override-just-part-of-a-baked-in-rule
r
ah. so you set a password. Submit Changes. Then edit to disable the password.
i got it enabled - need to report the admin bug in another threead
yah, none of this works in CFB though 😕
s
When the CFB ext for VS Code came out and they said it wouldn't work for Windows/WSL2, I lost interest 🙂 so I don't think I can be much help.
(did that config ever get fixed/working? Windows/WSL2?)
r
ive had issues with Box and WSL2, so I do my CF stuff on c:\
s
Box has always been rock solid for me on WSL2 (mind you, I mostly run Lucee, unless I'm specifically testing some ACF thing).
m
CommandBox support is on the docket for adding to CFB. Also Windows Linux stuff. More info will come out at Summit.
r
ok. i just assumed it fired up a 'real' cf server?
b
I've had one of the engineers tell me CommandBox worked when they put in the right settings, so I'm unclear what specifically needs to be added. It should work like any WAR deploy.
m
I think it is more about knowing the right settings and making that developer experience not suck. It is way harder to do than it should be.
b
I'm all for that 👍

I must admit I was pretty shocked at the UI/UX around onboarding a new server for a project 😞

the UX/UI is the best ever, do not question the overlords - Nothing to see here, move along -- move along.
