Hi Guys, I want to convince my client to make a web application in coldfusion instead of dot net or php. Can you guys let me know some points over dot net why we should choose coldfusion.
g
ColdFusion offers several advantages over PHP and .NET, depending on your specific needs and preferences. Here are a few advantages of ColdFusion: 1. Simplified Syntax: ColdFusion has a simplified and intuitive syntax, making it easier to learn and write code compared to PHP and .NET. 1. Rapid Development: ColdFusion provides a wide range of built-in functions and features, allowing for faster development of web applications. It has a robust set of pre-built functions that can handle common tasks, reducing the need for extensive coding. 1. Seamless Integration: ColdFusion has excellent integration capabilities, allowing for seamless communication with various technologies and databases. It can easily integrate with Java, .NET, and other platforms, making it a versatile choice for integration projects. 1. Security Features: ColdFusion has built-in security features that help protect against common vulnerabilities, such as cross-site scripting (XSS) and SQL injection attacks. It provides developers with tools and functions to ensure secure coding practices. 1. Scalability: ColdFusion is known for its scalability, allowing applications to handle high traffic and large volumes of data efficiently. It can handle concurrent requests and scale up or down based on demand. And you can use Lucee it’s always free and version 6 is amazing

@Ganeshan k you're going about it wrong. Your client should be telling you what they don't think CF is capable of doing. Then you can at least address their specific concerns.
Here's a blog I wrote a while back, but again, I was responding to specific claims made by someone. https://www.codersrevolution.com/blog/cfml-good-discussions-and-misinformation

I bet the client will tell that cfml is outdated with all those tag scripts. We need more actual blog post that clearly shows that cfml is not the same language anymore and that cfml moved much further. The main problem I see today is that every Manager thinks WordPress is the best. I always tell,WordPress is a blogging software and developers have created plugins on top to make a shop (wooCommerce) with it. What I'm saying is non-representative, but what I get listening here and there is, WordPress is the best. To one friend 've told that he is going to get into trouble because of GDPR. He said that his WordPress is "what everyone is using", until he received a formal warning notice because of some third party plugins consuming personal data without consent.

Some managers are stubborn

I'm truly bored with WordPress

The same client want something he can host "everyhwere", and change devs quickly (get devs in Germany, Austria, US, UK, India or whereever). Giving him a super fast, taylormade cfml framework is not what he wants.
g
The problem is he must be finding hard to find cfml devs so that is why he wants in php
a
Getting good PHP devs isn't easy.
I've seen a lot of ugly wordpress stuff. Updates breaking everything.
The other issue is getting a simple & easy hoster where you can just upload the cfml files and import th db and nothing more.
No client knows about AWS, VM or docker. They have a hosting contract with WordPress, Mailserver and a MySQL DB.

@gsr thank you so much for the details, it will be helpful πŸ™

You mentioned good But there is a case here

@gsr other than Java integration being easier with CFML, none of the items on that list accurately place CFML over PHP. And I doubt over ".net" (which language? It's like saying "JVM"). For a new project, I don't think there's any valid reason to use CFML over other more supported languages with more mature, active communities. CFML is a dev ghetto, and - @Ganeshan k - I'd perhaps look at this as being an opportunity for you to learn something new and move on with your career, into a more future-progression-proof environment.

A manager once opened some fancy designed one-page-application in browser, and said to me proudly - "See, it's modern Java, Coldfusion cannot do that!". Reality in some corporations...
g
Agreed @rodyon but there is a light in the cave and that light is cfml I still find coldfusion is good over other languages with many nee features @Adam Cameron php is top of the list the only reason I find why because it has lot of community support and you can lots and lots of devs anywhere in the world even if someone is on an island 🀣

Yes, indeed. This is what I was meaning when I mentioned "more supported languages with more mature, active communities" above. CFMLers here might not like the sound of that as they like to try to "punch down" to PHP. But it really really isn't punching down. It's more like a self-punch. But anyway, not what the OP was asking about. I'll shhh now.
