unsupported tag using an obsolete version of datatables to do something there are many modern libraries out there to do for you (including datatables)
s
u are cfgrid-lucee is using old datatatbles

its using datatables 1.10.3
s
released on october 9, 2014

even if i use 1.13.4, i am sure its not going to break because its backward compatible
and what other alternative i have if i do not use this
s
you didn't say what you were trying to do, but presumably it's 'displaying a bunch of stuff from a database,' in which case the answer is: you can use HTML tables, you can use datatables if you're cool with relying on jQuery, or you can use one of the many alternatives to datatables out there
s
and what are those alternatives
s
I just came to say that the answer to the question 'can I use (this coldfusion UI tag that Adobe long since dropped and Lucee never added to begin wtih) was 'no' in 2019 and it's 'definitely no' today
I'd suggest you start with datatables and then locate alternatives based on what you don't like about datatables
s
i never mentioned i am using cfgrid, i mentioned a custom build functionality named as cfg5rid using datatables but if there is something better out there, would love to explore, please suggest

datatables is used all over the place and is an excellent library that we used for years. The only reason we don't still use it is because we moved away from jQuery a couple years ago
but lots of people still use jQuery
there is not a coldfusion-specific answer to this question because CF is a back-end application engine and is in the business of supplying data to libraries that handle visual displays, rather than displaying the data itself
s
i know u taking about(guess i am not wrong) about vue / react/ node which are far better than old jquery, but for legacy products, i think this is the best
s
jquery gets the job done for sure, just make sure you're using a current version and not whatever some github project from several years ago makes you use
s
yeah we use qtables, though they mostly make me miss datatables. 🙂
s
yeah, hear about it a lot, but for modern ui work, i use element ui
j
they do lack in some areas but quick and easy
s
maybe ut element ui plus is accessibility enabled so that is helful for me
since my question went unanswered, can i still use SPX with datatables without modifying the SPX to pass the sorting etc etc
s
datatables is a front end UI library for displaying tabular data. it has nothing to do with stored procedures
if you're asking whether datatables will handle sorting from (some data source, like maybe a stored procedure), the answer is yes, but datatables doesn't care that it's a stored procedure, it just wants an array of stuff to display
