I'm assuming the CFML Slack is still on the free tier? I was notified today on a different Slack (also free) about the coming changes to Slack's limits on message and file retention that kicks in in September (https://slack.com/help/articles/7050776459923-Pricing-changes-for-the-Pro-plan-and-updates-to-the-Free-plan). As of today, it looks like we have access to messages from early April, so the change from 10K messages to a 90-day window doesn't seem terribly significant for this Slack? (It's much more significant for my other low-traffic Slack which goes back a couple years.)

My Slack app is showing “Free trial ends today” which I am assuming means we will shortly lose access to anything older than 90 days here based on their recent licensing changes?

This is going to affect the CFML Slack signup form for Slack team https://help.heroku.com/RSBRUH58/removal-of-heroku-free-product-plans-faq

I'm not sure who set up https://cfml-slack.herokuapp.com/ but Heroku's free tier is going away.

I had not, because I wasn't in this channel. The Admins did have a discussion about this but the path forward was inconclusive, as I recall... Let me refresh my memory on that.

OK, we discussed this back in August (when Heroku first made the announcement). That's right at the edge of the 90-day retention/search limit so part of the discussion is no longer accessible but the options are: • someone (or some company) pays for Heroku for the inviter to stay up • someone (or some company) buys a cfml-slack related domain and sets it up as a redirect to an invite link -- and keeps updating it with new invite links as each one expires The latter is what we do for the Clojurians Slack. I can't remember who actually pays for the domain but the Admins all have a shared Gmail account and that is used for the shared account on namecheap which hosts clojurians.net which is just a redirect to an invite link that several of us update regularly. The TL;DR is that Slack just makes this all painfully difficult for open source communities to run/manage -- because it is deliberately not designed for non-business users.

FWIW, Ortus had a similar discussion about our boxteam slack. It's possible to run the same Heroku app as a docker container and we may just move it over to our Docker swarm. The only real downside is the URL will change

(I will also say that the Admin team as a whole is not very active these days because most of us have moved on to other communities to a greater or lesser extent -- Adam Cameron and I are the most active Admins here, which should tell you a lot 🙂 although Pete Freitag, John Whish, and Mingo Hagen have contributed to discussions over the last several months)

I would really like to see some deeply-involved company take over the inviter/domain stuff and manage it, so that the cost and hassle doesn't fall on a bunch of volunteers who aren't really part of the community these days.

I don't know where the cfml-slack.herokuapp.com URL is advertised but I suspect changing the URL to something less Heroku-y would be just fine overall.

What is the URL to the app that backs up the Slack content? Couldn't find it in any of the channel headings/descriptions.

Does anyone have any insight into why archival of this Slack workspace at cfml.linen.dev is lagging (or maybe got turned off)? Poking around it looks like there isn't anything newer than from a couple weeks ago that has made its way over there.
