This is probably old news, but I just read about this: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/03/say-hello-to-macbook-neo/

No, this is so cool!
If it has an older M-series chip that can run Asahi Linux I'd totally get it
It has an A-series chip... That's wild!
e
This will be marketed primarily to students, I suspect. But this could uproot the Air as my personal device if the line continues till I need a replacement.
j
I'm sure that the A-Series chips are more than capable of running MacOS well. I bet it'd be a really great device all-around if it runs MacOS.
And would be more capable than an M-Series iPad running iPadOS 🙄
e
So I don't know -- would an A-Series run Asahi? Or is Asahi limited strictly to the M-Series?
Oh I see, that was actually kind of a dumb question. I didn't realize the A-Series were mobile chips.
So this is Apple's equivalent of those arm chips running in lightweight laptops. Like the Samsung GalaxyBook or whatever. Which makes sense. I'm guessing it'll better compete with Chromebooks and such.
lol they're finally starting to* properly align their hardware to their software for the right products.
j
Lol for real. Maybe this is a precursor to iPads and Macs finally being more alike
e
I'd love a world where you could "dual boot" macOS and iOS on the same machine. Or setup a minimal macOS VM/container on a mobile device, even.
Parallels is still a thing, right? So an iPhone could run W11 now?
Unless a jailbreak already had that done
j
Performant vrtualization isn't currently possible on iOS. There is UTM which allows you to run VMs, but it's crazy slow
