🟡 Inquiry about sheep council onboarding with tim...
# questions
j
How does onboarding for sheep council work? I'd like to get access but I'm normally not awake around seattle business hours because I live in NZ. I will be awake around those times this week however because I ended up flipping my sleep schedule programming instead of sleeping after f1 was finished whoops.
v
you attend our thursday sessions!
j
What time thursday?
v
j
Okay nice, I can be awake 5-6am friday my time so that should be good 🙂
v
yea sorry about the bad timings we'll be starting to set more time options pretty soon 🥲
j
It's fine, I get it lol. Plenty of other things to worry about at this stage of the project. The language is worth it at least hahaha
Anything that gets features quicker is worth it xD
v
joining the sheep council will def add features priority 🙂
j
Currently the thing I would like most is to ditch python and never look back 😂 Rust is so much nicer to use with codex.
v
ideally BAML can be a nice happy ground haha
j
BAML is definitely the best experience I've had with agents, but I think it'll take a while until I can not use a rust layer for interacting with stuff. Unless you have some spicy stuff already in the works?
v
what do you mean not using a rust layer?
j
Well because the type of stuff I'll want to use baml for is integrating with C++ applications and I'm not sure if you'll have all the tools needed to do that stuff
Like games modding, one idea is I want to put my voice loop inside gta 5
Oh also another thing I have that'd be perfect for BAML is I have an emote wheel mod for Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga that currently loads in all available animations even though a lot of them don't play for all characters or situations. A way to use LLMs to filter/sort each animation so there's a far more reliable smaller selection of working animations to pick from would be really nice because the data is dynamic per character so it's not something that can easily be precomputed.
a
baml should be able to work with c++ but we just need to build the 'bridge' to C++
j
Well with Codex I kinda don't really want to write C++ anymore hopefully xD The Rust bridge being fully supported and ready is all I really need for practically integrating this stuff. Or even I can actually get it working with Python using the win32 api's and some direct memory operations. It's just very unclean. The other one I'd like is a dotnet bridge because the mod loader/framework being used for the lego game is using C# and direct integration with that would be really nice. But Rust would also be perfectly workable because C# has pretty amazing support for unmanaged calls.
As a games modder I'm used to putting things in weird places in weird ways so unsafe Rust is really all I need 🙂
i
When do you expect the cpp bridge?
$ baml bridge add cpp
error: unrecognized subcommand 'bridge'
a
@avery (BAML) mind guiding to how to use cpp?
a
cpp bridge should be there, i think you may be on an older version where the command is “baml generate add cpp”
lmk if u run into any issues
i
I used the current install script: $ baml --version baml wrapper 0.2.4 baml toolchain 0.16.0 (canary)
a
try updating your toolchain, i think a new release just got pushed last night
v
this was actually on me sadly!
I updated the docs to say
baml bridge <cmd>
but haven't merged that yet!
sorry about that delay!
baml generate add
is the current command!
a
@iKranium did you ever get a chance to try this out? sorry about the docs issues
i
Not yet, will do though
a
sounds good, let me know if you run into any issues!
