Using Entra ID for authentication
# help
b
Hi, I'm currently exploring using BAML for a new project at work. I can't seem to get Entra ID auth to work. Is this not supported yet? In the meantime I use the modular API to use my own python client from the openAI SDK. That also has the plus of utilizing responses API.
v
you can use the
openai-responses
provider to directly use openai-responses here!
and sadly EntraID auth is not yet supported. we should be able to add it in if its blockignyou!
(I can try and squeeze in a patch for mondays's release!)
b
Yeah used that when using modular API ๐Ÿ™‚ It would be great to have it, since it is our only authentication method towards Azure OpenAI. Would it be possible to use openai-responses targeting Azure OpenAI ressource using EntraID as auth? Please don't rush for my sake. I'm just doing preliminary discovery before we start the implementation. If its available in the coming weeks, that would suit me greatly.

we do a thing every friday where each of us picks one problem a user is having and tries to ship it within the next release. i was trying to pick one anyways haha so you really are doing me a favor by giving me this suggestion! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Glad to be of service then ๐Ÿ˜‰ Appreciate your work and the AITW content โค๏ธ

Another idea for your friday problem solver: Making it possible to control streaming on fields added via typebuilder ๐Ÿ™‚ That or some inheritance on classes. I would like to dynamically add some fields to my Extract class, where these are tagged @stream.done Currently I can either do Extract @stream.done and have to wait for all fields to finish or I get partial streams for each field.
v
inheritance is something we're thinkign about deeply!
but still a tricky thing atm because we dont like the way python / TS do it. and traits in rust are also too complicated
so sadly no clear answer so far ๐Ÿ™
b
I think for most cases an extension of the add property api with stream controls would be sufficient. Where inheritance is more QoL
v
yea for streaming we have some ideas!

When Steve Jobs learned 1 month before the release of the first iPad, that the team had just scaled up the UI from the iPhone version, he gave them an ultimatum: either redesign it for the new size, or it wouldn't be included at all. The first iPad shipped without a calculator app. And the first BAML shipped without inheritance. Cheers to not shipping junk! ๐Ÿฅ‚
We'll wait in the ๐Ÿ’บ @patience_cave until it's ready So far I've found all the limitations of BAML to be the feature though. That's the whole point of managing prompts in a DSL. Do 1 thing good and build amazing tooling around it. I prefer to work with a limited โœจ but amazing โœจ tool - than a Swiss army knife dynamically typed runtime-only GPL multi-domain tool that can get me to mars in a rusty Tesla with a @types extension that makes everything resolve to
Record<any, any>

You are very welcome to ping me, when this hits a stage where I can test it out ๐Ÿ˜Š Eager to get my hands on more BAML reps
v
we've actually got a PR up and it appears to work! next release should have it ๐Ÿ™‚
