Hey everyone! We've started using BAML with our Typescript/Ruby services and I noticed the published ruby Gem is a bit out of date. I found #[2620](https://github.com/BoundaryML/baml/issues/2620) and wondered if I could help out, or if anyone else is currently working on it?
a
noone is currently working on it unfortunately. If you wanted to make it work with the current CFFI bindings we'd be happy to get an assist. We use this for Rust and Go
The other thing we could consider is shipping ruby but without Sorbet support
m
Sweet, yeah I'd be happy to try help in getting it to work. If you have any pointers before I start looking please feel free to point me in the right direction!
a
we basically generate a .dylib that we download in both Rust and Go at initialization time. Theres an engine/generators that contains the templates we use to generate the baml_client. If you pointed claude code at Rust + Go (engine/language_client_rust , language_client_go) perhaps you could get pretty far.
sorry we don't have an official guide at the moment
engine/target/debug/libbaml_cffi.dylib is what BAML_LIBRARY_PATH env var can point to, which will use that (or download if it's not set)
m
Awesome, thanks. I'll take a look around!
Hello! Sorry for the delay / being quiet. I'm slowly working through the switch to CFFI bindings in https://github.com/ryanmazzolini/baml/tree/ruby-cffi-migration There is still quite a bit to do, but I'm hoping to have something working soon!
a
Sweet

I'm disapearing for a bit while on vacation. I've made progress on the branch and have most ruby integ tests passing (49/61). I think most of the remaining are creds issues and flaky/incorrect tests, but I still need to debug a bit further.
a
Wow niice!!
we're making more progress on our new compiler so whatever code you write we can port to the new architecture soon.
m
Awesome! I'm back from vacation so will pick this up again. Are there any rough timelines etc. for the compiler?
a
We should have a working python client in the next couple days. You can look at how we implement that in the new compiler and then port ruby to that one!
m
Heyo! Sorry for the long delay. I have the gem working and integration tests passing, but I haven't stress tested it with an application yet. Once I've done that I'll send through a PR. I can also start porting to the new compiler if things are ready?
a
@baml-sam is working on generating the baml client on new compiler, he will fill you in on details
