🟡 When will BAML support datetime type?
# questions
r
When will BAML get a datetime type?
v
we likely don't have an ETA for this yet
datetime is a bit too custom for us to yet have a native type for it

Just look at what a standard library like Joda uses? https://www.joda.org/joda-time/
They've solved it before, then specify which parts you want in your extraction
When you say too custom - probably many extractions extract datetimes, right?
You just specify an ISOish output format, the LLM is quite good at input of a variety of formats.

i just meant that theres no one cannonical way that i've seen folks do date-time. it seems to be very heaviliy context based 🙁

Oh, there is a canonical way that anyone serious uses. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601 And the most common reference implementation is joda time: https://www.joda.org/joda-time/
You could cut something minimalist with just a class with the main fields to a datetime, then let people choose which ones to use, date or datetime.
