I think that's something we should definitely improve; our IO descriptors should really tell the user what kind of input is expected. Unfortunately, because those errors originate from that code, there's not much you can do, save from writing your own descriptors. That said, we would absolutely welcome your contribution if you wanted to make our default descriptor errors more sensible.

You know, depending on how hard that is to do, we might be able to justify some BEN engineering time to add that. Like, if our org says it's' something we need and if they're committed to moving this first Bento POC to production... we may as well add it to the OSS library if we're going to implement it anyway.
