In one of my Descope projects, the "Configure custom domain" field is preventing me from using a specific prefix -- if I enter
auth
then I see an orange exclamation point with the label "N/A" If I enter any other value (e.g. authentication) then I get instructions on how to set the CNAME. Clicking the Refresh button doesn't help. I have used the
auth
custom domain prefix in four other Descope projects, so I do not understand what is wrong here. How can I solve this?
Looking at the JSON response from clicking the Refresh button, I can see an error being returned:
"custom hostname does not CNAME to this zone."

@Graham Savage Thanks for reaching out. Can you share your projectId so, I can check exact issue ?

As you mentioned your project is from US zone. so, the CNAME should point to
Copy code
<http://cname.descope.com|cname.descope.com>
Is this the way you have configured right now?
g
Yes
a
Okay!
Got it! Right now your DNS is pointing:
<http://auth.app.us.kosli.com|auth.app.us.kosli.com> → <http://cname.descope.com|cname.descope.com>
But descope doesn’t use a generic CNAME like that. Each project has its own unique CNAME target, and the custom domain will only validate if it matches that exact value. So, any other prefix temporary instead of cname.descope.com set something like auth.descope.com (Instead of auth you can use any prefix) Can you please try this and let us know if this works ?
g
I've responded in a DM
The on-screen instructions told me to set my CNAME to that value
<http://cname.descope.com|cname.descope.com>
- I don't understand how to find my "unique CNAME target"

g
Yes. The custom domain has worked perfectly for the other Projects in my Descope organisation, but not this one.
m
plz open ticket, and mention the project id + the exact cname values and screenshots of page you are using
g
I have changed this one Project's custom domain to
authentication
pointing to
<http://cname.descope.com|cname.descope.com>
and it has worked this time
m
``authentication`` ? that is the domain you use ?
g
I want to use
auth
as the custom subdomain. I have used
auth
in all the other projects.
I'll raise a ticket I changed my custom subdomain, in this one project, to
authenication
and set a CNAME pointing to
<http://cname.descope.com|cname.descope.com>
and it worked. I changed my custom subdomain, in this project back to
auth
and it moved to pending verification. One minute later it's worked
So everything is working once again.
Very strange
m
Those DNS changes , do take a a few minutes
It's not immediate
g
I originally set the custom subdomain on Thursday last week. DNS TTL was 600 seconds. But it's working for me now, so 🤷
