hey, I have a question about publishing an Actor on the Apify Store 👋
I'm building a
pay-per-event scraper where I embed my own third-party proxies on the backend. Users wouldn't see or configure the proxies at all — they just pay per result, and proxy costs are baked into my pricing. Basically the proxies are a hidden implementation detail, like using a CAPTCHA API behind the scenes.
I already checked with Apify support but got a vague answer, so wanted to ask here:
1. Does embedding your own proxies this way fall under section 4.3 of the Store Publishing Terms (the one about not promoting external products/services)? Or is it fine since users never see/access the proxies?
2. If it does need written approval, what's the process?
3. Any best practices for storing proxy credentials securely inside an Actor? (I'm planning to use secret env vars)
For context, actors like
apidojo/google-search-scraper
already advertise "No proxy required" with pay-per-event pricing, so it seems like this kind of setup already exists on the store.
Thanks!
