Hello All, i installed pulsar using helm chart in my kubernetes cluster, but the pulsar-manager pod is not coming up. pulsar-pulsar-manager-init-6dtk9 its not changing from init state. i have used 2.7.2 chart: https://github.com/apache/pulsar-helm-chart/releases?page=3 have anyone faced this? all other pods are running thanks in advance
l
why would you use such an old chart version? We don't support that chart version in any way. I'd suggest that you upgrade to the newest 3.3.0 chart version. It's worth following the release notes and upgrade notes on the way.
Pulsar Manager support has been broken for a long time until the recent 3.3.0 release.
r
ohh dint know that. in our old doc , it was that version, so used the same. i will update to the newer version then
it will have the pulsar UI correct @Lari Hotari?
and 1 more doubt.. in the old yaml , there is a configData where we can enter the DB credentials, but no place to add the password. so how can we connect our pulsar instance to the DB we have so as to store all the data
l
there's no need to handle the DB credentials manually since the new version of the chart handles that. The Pulsar Manager service doesn't have a load balancer in the default configuration for security reasons. It's also worth noticing that the Apache Pulsar Helm chart isn't and has never been secure-by-default. The new security disclaimer in the readme file states this now clearly.
r
the namespace and tenants we create, where will it be store if we want to retain it then? is it getting stored in the bookkeeper PVC which is created? is there any way to store the data in our DB so that it is not lost
l
please check the release notes, there's now a change where there's a PVC for pulsar-manager where the DB is stored
r
will have a look.. thank you very much !!

hello @Lari Hotari i am installing 3.3.0v, and in the command:
./scripts/pulsar/prepare_helm_release.sh -n <k8s-namespace> -k <pulsar-release-name>
i am facing this:
/pulsar-helm-chart/scripts/pulsar$ ./prepare_helm_release.sh -n pulsar -k pulsar
"env: ‘bash\r’: No such file or directory" i am running in a cloudshell, so is there any changes in script?
l
can you workaround that by explicitly specifying
bash
? something like
Copy code
bash ./scripts/pulsar/prepare_helm_release.sh -n <k8s-namespace> -k <pulsar-release-name>
it might also be a problem with invalid linefeed config somewhere
since there is
\r
in the error message
that's a sign of windows style line endings in the file which mess it up
Git takes care of this unless you have overridden the settings, more details in https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/getting-started-with-git/configuring-git-to-handle-line-endings
@rahul Make sure that you are using a Linux shell which should work without special config
r
i am using a linux shell actually, my cloud shell. i tried with the bash too, but got like this:
pulsar-helm-chart/scripts/pulsar$ bash ./prepare_helm_release.sh -n pulsar -k pulsar
./prepare_helm_release.sh: line 20: $'\r': command not found
./prepare_helm_release.sh: line 22: cd: $'/home/cicaic/pulsar-helm-chart\r\r': No such file or directory
./prepare_helm_release.sh: line 23: $'\r': command not found
./prepare_helm_release.sh: line 24: syntax error near unexpected token `$'{\r''
'/prepare_helm_release.sh: line 24: `usage() {
i will try with a mac if possible, bcoz the old version i had ran like that in PC's terminal
l
There is something wrong in the way the repository has been checked out.
It contains windows line endings
r
ohh?, i used the git clone command of
git clone -b <pulsar-tag> <https://github.com/apache/pulsar-helm-chart.git>
is there anything i can do to avoid this?
it worked when i tried with mac but now there is an error:
Current server id 1
Creating /pulsar/data/zookeeper/myid with id = 1
mkdir: cannot create directory '/pulsar/data/zookeeper': Permission denied
bin/generate-zookeeper-config.sh: line 62: /pulsar/data/zookeeper/myid: No such file or directory
is there any permission i have to give @Lari Hotari?
l
@rahul please ask usage questions on GitHub Discussions. Someone might also help you here on Slack, but please don't tag me for support. I'll be willing to assist with contributions to Apache Pulsar.
r
ohh sorry, my bad. will do👍
l
the link to GitHub Discussions is https://github.com/apache/pulsar/discussions/categories/q-a . It's worth asking there and you could promote your question on Slack.
r
okayy, thanks again!
