@Nithin Subbaraj - upgrading from 2.8 to 3.0 is not guaranteed or well tested. we would recommend going from 2.8 to 2.9, 2.10, 2.11 to 3.0.

Does this apply for 2.10 -> 3.0.x in future as well?

2.10 -> 3.0.x is probably fine. However, I would still recommend going from 2.10 to 2.11, then to 3.0.x. After 3.0, you can follow the LTS model for upgrade.
