My experience is with writing functions in Java, but I set the schema in the

context.newOutputMessage(topicName, schmea)

call, and haven't had a problem publishing to a topic from a function.

Looks like in Java, we can pass schema using context.neOutPutMessage and conext.publish. Unfortunately, not in Python. Don't know if there is any workaround for providing the schema in routing function or some settings in target topic sink to load JSON string into a table.
