has anyone tried integrating pinot with looker?

Not that I am aware of, Superset seems a lot more popular for Pinot. If you have Presto/Trino + Pinot, that could be an option.

I’m under the impression that Looker would require middleware like Presto until Looker natively supports connecting to Pinot. Is that accurate?

Yes, that's what I ended up doing. Looker integrates with Trino which connects to Pinot. I had to deploy trino on the same k8s cluster as pinot for the networking to work.
