Yes, Apache Pinot supports both inverted indexes and text indexes separately for a column. However, it does not directly provide an option to combine them. A column can be dictionary-encoded or stored RAW, and you can create an inverted index and/or a sorted index on a dictionary-encoded column. On the other hand, a text index can only be applied to a RAW column. For more information, please refer to the provided links for Inverted Index documentation and Text Search Support documentation in Apache Pinot Docs. https://docs.pinot.apache.org//basics/indexing/inverted-index https://docs.pinot.apache.org//basics/indexing/text-search-support

Thanks @Hubert Dulay!

I don't think the docs here are up to date, we use dictionary encoding + inverted index + text index on the same column internally

@Chris Peck this is available in 1.0?
c
yep, we've used it in 0.12 up to head
skimmed briefly, it looks like it's been available since around 0.6.0 the original implementation implemented an inverted index reader and I guess was the default 'inverted index' for raw cols, but by 0.6.0 the implementation becomes generic/similar to today

Update: was able to use text-index with inverted indexes in 1.0.
