Can docker mounts be used to create tables/schemas?(Mount path is a config directory in Pinot and the schema files are there)
h
yes that’s a common approach
e
Any document on this Hubert? Thanks for reply.
h
Not really. This is a docker specific feature. You can use the ./bin/pinot-admin.sh AddTable/AddSchema CLI command in the container
for example
Copy code
docker exec pinot-controller ./bin/pinot-admin.sh AddTable -h
this will tell you the arguments you need to create a table
e
Just considering a scenario where Pinot is deployed to kubernetes, I’ve locked down the UI and APIs(for security), can I mount a config directory to create new schemas and tables?
h
ok, yeah it should work
e
Been digging around for any documentation on if Pinot polls for new schema/table configurations in any directory/external blob via configuration, let me know please if there is any. Thanks for getting back to me so quick Hubert! :)
h
there isn’t ☝️ . You’ll need to invoke an API either through CLI or REST
e
And the API exclusively support basic auth and zk basic auth?
h
but nothing is stopping from extending and adding a listener ;)
e
Think that’s a proposal worth putting forward?
h
There are lots of thinking around usability that’s in the pipe. This i think is part of them

If there’s any way to contribute to that please let me know
h
absolutely. we’d be happy to have to commit. here are the guidelines https://github.com/apache/pinot/blob/40cf5a7ba82fcc4fc10d8b8efe800d3f732c0655/CONTRIBUTING.md
