Are
async-http-client-1.9.21.jar
and
calcite-core-1.34.0.jar
still required for
pinot-jdbc-client-1.0.0
? I removed them and the JDBC client did not have any problems. The docs only update as far as
pinot-jdbc-shaded-0.13.0-SNAPSHOT.jar
https://docs.pinot.apache.org/integrations/tableau#install-pinot-jdbc-for-tableau-desktop
t
in my work trying to slim down the shaded jar (https://github.com/timveil-startree/pinot-jdbc-uber-jar) i have continued to include those jars... in other words i believe those to be required.
j
Roger that thank you 🙇

t
so i use the existing dependency graph for the
pinot-jdbc-client
module and then do a few things... 1) i exclude certain transitive dependencies that i've determined to be unnecessary or unwanted. a good example of this is duplicative or old logging dependencies 2) i overwrite additional dependencies to fix versions or re-include dependencies that were unintentionally excluded.
in this case i wanted to standardize the version of calcite. i do believe this is a required dependency but its worth confirming.
j
That makes sense. I am wondering why I do not see
async-http-client-1.9.21.jar
?
t
as for
async-http
it is already included as a transitive dependency of
pinot-jdbc-client
that i neither excluded or modified so its not in my pom file
j
Ahh 👍
What is the best way to determine what
pinot
version maps to what
calcite-core
version? It looks like version 1.0.0 of the docs do not have up-to-date jars https://docs.pinot.apache.org/v/release-1.0.0/integrations/tableau
t
the version of calcite bundled with pinot 1.0.0 is
1.30.0
as found here... https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.apache.pinot/pinot-common/1.0.0
j
That version actually doe NOT work with the JDBC connector
The last version in the docs was 1.34.0
t
let me review this part of the documentation... there may have been something unique to the tableau configuration
j
I am wondering how you knew to add that version
t
so this is where things get a bit complicated... my uber jar uses the latest pinot
1.1.0
snapshot which has been updated to use a more recent version of calcite (and other dependencies). i'm still working thru a mechanism to more properly align versions of my uber jar with released versions of pinot but for now this mismatch exists.
what version of pinot are you targeting? i can publish a version of the uber jar that matches the released version
j
Pinot 1.0.0
t
very good. let me work on that for you

j
And the idea is we won't need external
calcite-core
and
async-http-client
jars?
t
for my uber jar, i attempt to bundle all classes required by the driver into the jar so no additional jars should be needed except perhaps a logging implementation jar. having said that my tests with my uber jar were focused on tools like IntelliJ/DataGrip/DBeaver/DBVisualizer. I have not tested with Tableau but i would very much like to
j
Do you all have an internal Tableau to test with? I think it needs to be tested on Tableau server
t
let me tag @Vibhuti Bhushan who may be able to shed light on the current state of the official tableau work
v
I can help with a tableau license. To connect tableau with ST, users will need JDBC jar file and a TCO file. Here are the instructions to connect: https://dev.startree.ai/docs/get-started-with-startree-cloud/connect-to-startree-cloud/connect-tableau-to-startree-cloud @Jessica Stewart if you can share your email-id, I will check if i can add you to the license to access Tableau
j
I don't think this is answering the correct question? I was asking Tim if he is able to test his uber jar with Tableau so I think the test resources would need to go to him?
n
@Jessica Stewart and @Tim Veil did you find out which Version
async-http-client.jar
and
calcite-core.jar
is required for
pinot-jdbc-client-1.0.0
or rather the direct connection to Pinot Version 1.0.0?
