Yes. Tag-based instance assignment happens in both the Helix instance config file for the server(s) and the table config file.

02/16/2024, 8:22 PMi believe you’re asking if it’s possible to set the tag in the instance’s conf file. I can’t find the original issue, but I believe Pinot specifically chose not to allow that and require it being done via the API

02/16/2024, 8:23 PMmostly because brokers are the entry point to queries, so if you’re running brokers behind a load balancer, it’s challenging to coordinate bringing up the broker and tagging it before whatever system you’re using for load balancing knows it’s ready
