Noticed Pinot was open-sourced in 2019 and is currently on v0.12.1..curious why v1.0.0 hasn't been released yet?

@Jessica Stewart I will add this from my perspective as a Product Marketing Manager [not as an engineer]. There are two different criteria that make people consider if something is "1.0" worthy, as you only get one chance at making a 1.0 release in your project's history. 1. Production-readiness. We know this isn't the issue, as there are many, many companies already using Apache Pinot in production, at scale. 2. Feature-completeness. Here is where a lot of work is in-flight in various areas, from the V2 Engine and JOINs, to a myriad of other in-progress innovations. It's now up to the Pinot community to see which of these innovations are ready for a "1.0" release window while also conforming to the production-readiness requirement. For folks who missed the Apache Pinot roadmap presentation earlier this year, here was a great virtual meetup of what's coming down the pike. We'll have to see what actually shakes out for 1.0 release, and which get pushed out beyond that:

Thanks for the comprehensive response @Peter Corless 🙏 . Definitely not an engineer’s response (like mine) 😅 .

Thanks you! I am excited to watch the talk. And now the dreaded question of "When?" 😱 Is there a ballpark or target ETA?

That I'll defer to the PMCs. As for such tea-leaf reading, watch this space. Minutes of the May meeting were submitted but are awaiting Board approval. https://whimsy.apache.org/board/minutes/Pinot.html

Also, if you really want to be in the bowels of the beast, keep an eye on what tags are pulled for the Apache Pinot releases. I don't see an "rc0" for 1.0, and you'd likely see that before 1.0 just launches out of nowhere. https://github.com/apache/pinot/tags
[rc0 = release candidate 0. There may be one or more "rc"s pulled before you get the final 1.0 release.]
