Does anyone here use pool based routing? Is there any advantage to using 3 pools with 4 replica groups vs using 2 pools with 6 replica groups? i.e. does it make sense to have more than 1 pool?
cc @Jackie - so far so good in terms of 0 dowtime deployments! We just wanted to know what the recommended usage is - do you think 3 pools is excessive?
j
3 pools with 4 replica groups will result in 1 pool with 2 replicas; 2 pool with 6 replicas with result in each pool with 3 replicas

Why do you want to use pool based assignment? Is that for restarting multiple servers in parallel?
e
Yep, we're just trying it out. For now we have 3 pools with 3 replica groups, was just wondering what's a good way to use the feature
The parallel restart reduces the deployment from 2 hours to 15 mins or less.

It seems like num replica groups should match the table replication, right? So if we have 3 replicas for a table (i.e. replicasPerPartition for realtime) then we need atleast 3 replica groups, right?
j
Yes, replica groups should match the table replication
IIRC (not 100% sure), we will take the numReplicaGroups over numReplicas if it is explicitly configured

thanks @Jackie!
