Hi team, I have a question regarding
tableIndexConfig
for
dimension
tables. 1. If we don’t specify the
loadMode
in
tableIndexConfig
, is
HEAP
the default load mode? 2. If we specify the
loadMode
in
tableIndexConfig
, will it overwrite the default load mode?
Copy code
"tableIndexConfig": {
    "invertedIndexColumns": [],
    "loadMode": "MMAP"
  },

Hi team, could you please help answer this?
n
@Zhengfei 1. looking at the code in
TableConfigBuilder
,
HEAP
seems like the default load mode. However, the
IndexLoadingConfig
is actually using the
ReadMode.DEFAULT_MODE
which turns out to be
mmap
. I think the latter is the source of truth. Not sure why the default in
TableConfigBuilder
is
HEAP
. cc: @Jackie 2. If you configure
loadMode
in
tableIndexConfig
, it will use that instead of the default.

@Navina
TableConfigBuilder
is just a tool to build table config and is mostly used by the test. We probably missed it when changing the default load mode, and we can change it to use
MMAP
as the default

@Zhengfei Yes that is the correct constant to determine load mode. If not explicitly specified, Pinot will load data with
MMAP
mode
