sorry I have no clue on how this would happen. What I would do would be to get minimal test scenario and then source debug the paths around the update in RocksDB. I would be looking for asynchronous processing that might not have occurred to initialise the value. Then if you have some ideas add more logging, maybe putting out the thread id in the logs - if there are threads involved.
