In pyflink, if I wanted to just get back the raw bytes from a data source, what serialization schema should I use? Examples show
SimpleStringSchema
but I don't want my bytes stringified.

@Nathanael England Currently there is no built-in implementation for this purpose (However, this seems a good add-on for users). For now, there are two solutions in my mind: • Implement one yourself • Use Table API & SQL connectors and define a source table having only one column which type is byte array.

I'm trying to read from a rabbitmq source. Would the table api still allow that?
d
Oh, it’s not supported.
n
Oh no
I have no ability to add custom java to this project
d
Have created a ticket to track this: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-31861

Is this even possible in the java api? I'm kind of surprised it's impossible to bypass any kind of serialization layer and just get bytes since that's possible within the process functions and other elements.
d
Personally I think it should also be not possible with the Java API without implementing custom serialization schema.
n
So seems like there's no schema that is just a pass through to allow this to just return
body
d
Yes, I think so. I have not found any implementation for such purpose.

Perhaps it's easiest short term for me to throw the bytes I want in a json object as a base64 encoded string
Since json format is supported, I think that could work
