Druid is based on the scatter gather architecture. We are changing a bit of it in the MSQ world but thats a separate conversation. Now, we need a node which basically does the merge of all the historical results. In theory we can assign any historical to become the broker and do this merge but then we will have to build a lot more things like resource isolation which is not a trivial task.
